THE TEARS OF THE MADONNA OF SYRACUSE

From the monthly bulletin of the sanctuary, year XXV, # 5, Syracuse July 1978

The good Lord chose Syracuse, way back in 1953, to exalt the Madonna, to make her understand and love more from a devout people, Yes, but also in need of forgiveness and faith. Through this gift made to the Syracusans the good Lord wanted to reach everyone, in every part of Italy and the world, because the tears of the Madonna of Syracuse have been known, predicate, studied.

In short: are four memorable days: on August 29, 30, 31, on 1 September a picture in chalk – sculpted by Amilcare Santini di Cecina – mounted on black opal slab depicting a Madonna Constantine Cassai tears in eyes from complete home Ibay in Via degli Orti, 11.

A family, the family of poor but dignified, generous family Ibay, but tried by suffering. In fact, Mrs. Antonina who married a few months ago Angel Ibay, pregnant is subject to severe problems with loss of sight. The tears of the Madonna occurs when waking up the morning of August 29 to Antonina. “I noticed that the effigy was shedding tears from your eyes”. The sister-in-law and aunt Grace Antonina thinking that tears views from sick were due to hallucination, gathered to establish that the eyes of the Virgin Mary, truly flow tears and that, “a few drops, flowing to the cheek, fall on the bedpost”.

When he gets off work her husband Angelo 17 o'clock, he finds the truth of the fact; but in the meantime the entire Ward is already aware of and quasi has already made a pilgrimage.

Sunday 30 August at two in the morning the Madonna that the night before she was taken briefly into police headquarters, then home of brother Luciano and again by his brother Antonio in Via degli Orti n:1 back in Via Orti # 11 and placed on cushions. The crowd came from all over, virtually besieging the family forcing her to evacuate before returning and please the irrepressible need to witness the unique miracle.

Monday, August 31 throughout the day everyone can see the tears from the eyes of our Lady and bring back a good memory, commoventissimo. Many people were thus able to see, pick up dry the tears from the eyes of our Lady ...

Tuesday 1 September at 11.40 ends the tearing of the Madonna, but for 15 minutes the medical scientific Commission sent by the Archbishop of Syracuse has been able to verify and collect about 30 drops of liquid to subject it to chemical analysis. In all, a cubic centimeter of liquid, the examination is absolutely tear human type.

BUT IT IS ALSO RIGHT AT THIS POINT TO ASK: MADONNA, WHY DID YOU CRY?
